Finn's Noms: Super Meal With Chicken from the Stardew Valley cookbook

Finn's Noms is a weekly feature where Finn picks recipes out of the (many) cookbooks we have, and then cooks them for us!

Finn made a super meal from the Stardew Valley cookbook! We added chicken.

What book: Stardew Valley Cookbook

What recipe: Super Meal

Did we change anything: We added chicken! And the sauce called for anchovies which we did NOT add.

Why we chose that recipe: It looked tasty and healthy, and very fall coded.

Thoughts:
I didn't like it. I liked the pomegranate seeds and the farro and that's it. I didn't like the texture or the taste of any of the rest.

Would we change anything
Ironically I would take out the pomegranate seeds. Finn just wouldn't cook it at all or eat it at all again.

Would we cook it again.
I would, Finn wouldn't.

1 Yums (Finn)
3 Yums (Ash)

It was definitely something. It was A LOT of different flavors and textures. I loved the farro, it's my first time trying it. I did NOT like the pomegranate seeds, they were so hard to chew. I loved the taste, that's it.
Other than that it was good, just.. different. And I think that the bok choy should've been cooked differently.

WWBC: Favorite Childhood memory

This week's WWBC question is my favorite memory from my childhood?

Oh gosh uhm.. Hmm. One that really stands out to me, that I remember vividly, is like twice a week my grandma would give me a bath, afterwards she would brush my hair while we watch either Hercules or Xena.
It's such a simple thing, but it's something I remember doing until I could give myself baths.

What's your favorite childhood memory?

TMST: Who do you want on your team during the zombie apocalypse and why?

Tell Me Something Tuesday is a weekly discussion post where bloggers discuss a wide range of topics from books and blogging to life in general hosted by That's What I'm Talking About

Who would I want on my zombie apocalypse team and why?

First I have to ask.. How many people? 1? 5? 10?

Obvious answer is Daryl Dixon. Carol too. Joel Miller, also obvious. Claire Redfield. Macgyver. Samwise, so he can grow the garden. Gimli. Elizabeth Bennet, specifically from Pride and Prejudice and Zombies. The Doctor, from Doctor Who. Eleven and Steve from Stranger Things. Katniss Everdeen, Molly Weasley, Indiana Jones..

Yeah, I think that's a decent group.

Who do you think I'm missing? Is there anyone you disagree with?

Top Ten Tuesday: Spooky SZN

A Halloween freebie!? I'm a little overwhelmed by the possibilities! What am I going to do??
Our costumes? I have ten years of those maybe?
Favorite Halloween movies!? Games!? Books!? ALL OF THE ABOVE!?

Halloween is one of my FAVORITE holidays. So I have a lot to say about it. I am going to make this a long post.

First let's talk about our costumes.

2015: I don't remember what Finn's costume was this year, and I cannot find any pictures.

2016: Our first year with John!

2017: I had two costumes, one was a unicorn for our adult only Halloween party and then on Halloween I dressed up like a kitty with Finn.

2018: Jack and Sally and Zero! The one where I have a wig and am wearing makeup was once again our Halloween party. The one of me and Finn I didn't do as much because I was pregnant and exhausted.

2019: We were animals, foxes and a wolf.

2020: The purge and Godzilla

2021: Horror characters (Chucky, Jason, and Ghostface)

2022: Clowns! I hate clowns but I think we ate with this one.

2023: Our first year with Junie! We were bears and foxes to honor the boys we lost.
John was grumpy because June rolled off the couch onto the hardwood floor. She was okay, but he was upset it happened.

2024: We weren't going to dress up, just let the kids do it. But we decided to throw something together last minute. Me and June were witches and Finn and John were zombies.

2025: The year Finn decided he was too cool to dress up with us.
We were mommy shark, daddy shark, and baby shark. And Finn was Tweedle Dee, unfortunately his Tweedle Dum didn't show up. But he still had fun with his friends.

Now our favorite Halloween traditions!
I don't know if we have 10 of these, but we'll try.

1. Pumpkin patch
Every year we go to the pumpkin patch at a church near us, it's small but it's cute and has been something we've done every year (Most years) since Finn was born.

2. Pumpkin Patch Part 2
Usually we go to Fredericksburg for the pumpkin patch, but last year we went to Sweet Eats Farm in Georgetown and I think we're going to go there from now on!

3. Readathon
Every year we do the Dewey's 24 hour readathon. I try to make it all spooky books. It's nice when it actually feels like fall outside.

4. A spooky family day.
Depending on Finn's schedule with his dad, sometimes we run out of time to do this. But we usually try to do it every year.
We watch Halloween movies, bake and cook Halloween sweets and meals. Play a Halloween game or two. Sometimes we do Halloween crafts.

5. Family costumes
Every year we choose a costume to do as a family, of course that might change as they get older. Finn is already too old for that and matches with his friends instead. At least I have the girls for now.

6. Sea World
Not every year, but we've gone a couple of times, we try to every other year go for Halloween.

7. Candy distribution
After we go Trick or Treating we divide the candy up amongst everyone who was involved. And then some daddy usually takes to work with him because we always get way too much, and now we have THREE kids to bring home candy.

8. Decorate for Halloween
I know I did this out of order but I did them as I thought of them.
Every year my parents include the kids for the decorating and it's usually A MESS. I mean boxes, bubble wrap, etc EVERYWHERE. But the kids have so much fun.

9. Spooky movies
We watch a lot of horror movies as is, but from October 1st to Halloween we watch one horror movie a day (Sometimes more!)

10. Trick or treating
Mom and dad stay to hand out candy while we take the kids trick or treating. It's a lot of fun.

My favorite spooky books read in 2026
I was trying to do my favorite spooky books of all time and I couldn't narrow it down.. SO here is my favorites of this year.

I could honestly keep going with this. Books I can't wait to read, movies I'm watching this spooky season, etc. However I am going to stop it here, because I feel like it's long enough.

I hope every had an AMAZING spooky season.
